Bandipora, May 31, KNT: An 18-year-old student died while his father, a Head Constable in Jammu and Kashmir Police, sustained serious injuries after the father-son duo drowned in an overflowing stream in Bandipora district on Sunday.

The incident occurred in Nala Sorindar, which falls under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bandipora, where the two were reportedly bathing when a sudden water overflow swept them away.

The deceased was identified as Obaid Shabir, 18, a Class 12 student and son of Shabir Ahmad Wani, resident of Nadihal Bandipora.

His father, Shabir Ahmad Wani, a Head Constable in Jammu and Kashmir Police presently posted at District Police Lines (DPL) Bandipora, sustained serious injuries in the incident.

According to reports, both were bathing in the stream when they suddenly drowned due to heavy flow and rising water levels.

Locals and teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a rescue effort and retrieved both from the water.

However, Obaid Shabir succumbed, while Shabir Ahmad Wani was shifted to District Hospital Bandipora for treatment.

Owing to the seriousness of his condition, doctors referred him to Srinagar for specialized medical care.
