
New Delhi, June 11, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi in a development that comes amid continuing political discussions on statehood, governance and development issues concerning the Union Territory.
The meeting between the two leaders was confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office through a post on social media platform X.
“Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Omar Abdullah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in the post.
No official details regarding the agenda or duration of the meeting were immediately disclosed.
Omar Abdullah also congratulated the Prime Minister on completing 12 years in office. “I congratulated him for the landmark of completing 12 uninterrupted years in office,” Abdullah posted. The Office of the J&K CM also posted on X, “Chief Minister called on the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi in New Delhi today and discussed key issues concerning Jammu & Kashmir, including the early restoration of statehood, state of the economy and the pace of development. The Chief Minister also highlighted the need for continued support from the Government of India to accelerate economic growth, strengthen connectivity, generate employment, expand infrastructure and enhance public welfare across Jammu & Kashmir. He also congratulated the Hon’ble Prime Minister for completing 12 uninterrupted years in office.”
The interaction assumes significance as it comes at a time when the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir continues to remain a major political issue, with the National Conference-led government recently reiterating its demand for the fulfilment of commitments made on the matter. [KNT]
