Baramulla, June 12, KNT: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla has ordered a detailed inquiry into allegations of misconduct by police personnel following an incident involving an advocate and officials at Police Station Kunzer earlier this week.

The inquiry follows an altercation that reportedly took place inside the police station after a police team from PS Kunzer visited Dhobiwan village on June 10 in connection with the execution of a status quo order issued by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC), Tangmarg.

According to police, legal and preventive proceedings were initiated during the operation in compliance with the court’s directions. However, the matter subsequently escalated, leading to an altercation inside the police station and allegations regarding the conduct of police personnel.

In view of the concerns raised, the SSP has entrusted the inquiry to a Gazetted Officer and directed a comprehensive examination of the entire sequence of events.

The inquiry will scrutinize the circumstances that led to the registration of the case, the conduct of all individuals involved, and allegations relating to misconduct or use of force.

Officials said statements of all concerned persons will be recorded and available evidence examined before conclusions are drawn.

In a statement, District Police Baramulla said the inquiry is aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness and objectivity and assured that any lapse, misconduct or deviation from established procedures, if established, would invite appropriate action in accordance with law.

Police also clarified that the investigation into the registered case and the departmental inquiry will proceed independently on their respective merits. [KNT]
