Poonch, June 13, KNT: Traffic on the strategic Jammu-Poonch highway came to a complete halt on Saturday after a massive landslide struck the road near the Lassana area of Surankote, blocking the route and disrupting vehicular movement.
Officials said the landslide occurred during the morning hours, sending large quantities of debris onto the highway and rendering the stretch unsafe for traffic.
The incident led to an immediate suspension of movement on the route, leaving vehicles stranded on both sides of the affected area.
Authorities rushed men and machinery to the site and launched an operation to remove the debris and restore connectivity.
Officials said traffic would remain suspended until the road is cleared and declared safe for movement.
The Jammu-Poonch highway serves as a vital road link connecting the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri with Jammu and any prolonged disruption can affect passenger travel as well as the movement of essential supplies.
Commuters have been advised to follow official traffic advisories and avoid unnecessary travel on the route until restoration work is completed. [KNT]
