Srinagar, June 13, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Saturday visited SMHS Hospital Srinagar to enquire about the condition of the two schoolgirls injured in the fatal IPTS School bus accident in Khansahib, Budgam.
The minister reviewed the treatment being provided to the students and directed doctors and hospital authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for both children.
Describing the incident as heartbreaking, Itoo said it was distressing to see young children undergoing treatment following the tragic accident. She said instructions had been issued to provide special attention and all necessary medical support to the injured students.
The two girls were among the occupants of an IPTS School bus that skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in the Brenwar area of Khansahib on Friday. The accident claimed the life of driver Shahid Ahmad Lone, while the students sustained injuries and were later shifted to SMHS Hospital for specialized treatment.
During her visit, the minister interacted with hospital officials, reviewed the medical management of the injured children and expressed hope for their speedy recovery.
The hospital visit comes as the accident continues to generate widespread concern across Budgam and Kashmir, with questions being raised about school transport safety and regulatory compliance.
The tragedy has also renewed scrutiny of IPTS School’s transport fleet. Earlier this year, transport authorities had reported that three buses linked to the school were operating with the same registration number (JK04 F 5647), while two of those vehicles were shown as unregistered. The buses were subsequently seized before being released through court proceedings. [KNT]
