Flood-Like Situation Grips Poonch’s Phagla as Streams Overflow Following Heavy Downpour

Poonch, June 16, KNT: A flood-like situation emerged in the Phagla area of Surankote in Poonch district on Tuesday after torrential rainfall triggered a sharp rise in water levels in local rivers and streams, sending floodwaters into residential localities and disrupting normal life.
Reports from the area said intense rainfall caused streams and water channels to swell rapidly, leading to inundation of several low-lying residential areas.
As water entered homes and courtyards, inhabitants were forced to move to safer locations amid fears of further flooding.
The sudden rise in water levels created panic among locals, with movement in several parts of the area becoming difficult due to waterlogging and overflowing drains.
Locals said the flooding disrupted daily activities and raised concerns about damage to property, household belongings and essential infrastructure.
The situation remained under close watch as locals assessed the extent of damage caused by the heavy rainfall.
The incident comes amid continuing wet weather conditions across parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with meteorological authorities having warned of intermittent heavy showers, thunderstorms and localized flash floods in vulnerable areas. [KNT]
