Forest Fire Erupts in Salal Forest Area of Reasi, Containment Efforts Underway
Reasi, June 21, KNT: A forest fire erupted in the Salal forest area of Reasi district on Sunday, prompting a large-scale response from the Forest Department and Fire & Emergency Services to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining areas.
The fire spread rapidly across multiple forest compartments amid dry vegetation, soaring temperatures and prevailing winds, highlighting the heightened risk of wildfires during the summer season. Such incidents not only threaten forest wealth and biodiversity but also pose challenges for firefighting teams operating in difficult terrain.
Officials said firefighting personnel and forest protection staff were immediately mobilized after the blaze was reported in the area. Efforts were underway to create fire lines and contain the flames before they could engulf additional forest stretches.
Authorities said weather conditions, including dry undergrowth and gusty winds, were contributing to the rapid spread of the fire across parts of the forest belt.
