Srinagar, June 23, KNT: The District Administration Srinagar has granted permission for the traditional 8th Muharram procession scheduled to be held on June 24, allowing mourners to proceed from Guru Bazar to Dalgate via Budshah Kadal and M.A. Road.

According to an official order issued by the District Magistrate Srinagar, the permission has been granted in favour of the Yaadgari Hussaini Committee, Kalloo Manzil Mohalla, Guru Bazar, following a report submitted by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar.

As per the order, the procession will commence from Guru Bazar at 6:00 am and is scheduled to cross Jehangir Chowk at 7:00 am before reaching the J&K Bank Headquarters area on M.A. Road at around 8:30 am.

The administration has stipulated a series of conditions governing the conduct of the procession. These include maintaining one side of M.A. Road exclusively for the procession while keeping the other side open for emergency services, adherence to the prescribed route and timeline, and strict compliance with law and order requirements.

The order also prohibits the use of drones during the procession and directs organizers to ensure coordination with police, security agencies and civil authorities. Organizers have additionally been asked to make adequate first-aid arrangements in coordination with the concerned departments.

Authorities have barred any activity likely to disturb public order or communal harmony and warned that any violation of the conditions would invite legal action.

The annual Muharram processions attract large gatherings of mourners and require elaborate traffic, security and emergency management arrangements across the city. [KNT]
