Poonch, April 18, KNT: An army soldier was injured in a landmine blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district on Saturday, while a rusted explosive shell was later detected and safely defused in the area.

The incident occurred during a routine patrol along the LoC, when the soldier reportedly stepped on a landmine, triggering a blast and causing injuries.

Officials said the injured soldier was immediately evacuated from the site and shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Following the blast, security forces launched a search operation in the area to rule out the presence of additional explosives.

During the operation, a rusted shell was recovered and subsequently defused by a bomb disposal squad, preventing any further danger.

The LoC in Poonch and other frontier districts frequently witnesses such incidents due to legacy mines and unexploded shells, particularly in areas close to forward positions. [KNT]
