Bandipora, June 29, KNT: Former MLA Bandipora Usman Majid accused Bollywood of exploiting Kashmir for commercial gains by producing films that, according to him, misrepresent the region and tarnish the image of its people.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a workers’ convention, Majid alleged that several Bollywood productions depicting Kashmir were based on narratives that bear little resemblance to the ground reality.
He claimed that films such as The Kashmir Files, Dhurandhar and the upcoming Chauhan were being used to project a distorted image of Kashmiris while generating commercial success through controversy.
“Bollywood is making such films in the name of Kashmir to earn money and create controversy. These films are far removed from reality and are being used to defame Kashmiris,” Majid said.
He further alleged that deliberate attempts were underway to distort the reality of Kashmir and claimed that local talent was being sidelined through what he described as “backdoor entries.” He also accused the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party of being involved, without elaborating on the basis of the allegation.
