Local Youth Helps Avert Mishap as Live Mortar Shell Defused in Poonch

Poonch, May 30, KNT: A potential mishap was averted in Poonch after a local youth spotted a live mortar shell near Joggers Garden close to SK Bridge and alerted police, leading to the safe recovery and defusal of the explosive device.

Reports said that timely information enabled authorities to secure the site and prevent any danger to civilians.

According to reports, the local youth noticed a suspicious object lying near Joggers Garden and immediately informed the police.

Following the alert, police personnel rushed to the spot and secured the area to prevent public movement near the suspected explosive.

Army bomb disposal experts were subsequently called in to examine the object.

After assessment, the team confirmed it to be a live mortar shell and shifted it to a secure location where it was safely defused without causing any damage or injury.

Authorities appreciated the alertness and timely action of the local boy, saying his vigilance helped avert a possible tragedy.

Officials also urged citizens to remain cautious and immediately report any suspicious or explosive-like objects to the nearest police station or security agency instead of approaching or handling them. [KNT]
