Kishtwar, August 1, KNT: Damage was reported to two houses and two shops after a cloudburst triggered flash flood-like conditions in the Chhatroo area of Kishtwar district, prompting the administration to launch an immediate restoration operation.

Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, said a drain passing through the student market area overflowed after a cloudburst occurred upstream, washing large quantities of debris and muck onto the road.

He said two adjoining houses and two shops sustained partial damage in the incident.

The Deputy Commissioner said all concerned agencies were immediately pressed into service and restoration work was launched without delay. Heavy machinery, including excavators and JCBs, was deployed to clear the debris and remove the blockage from the road.

He added that the affected stretch has now been reopened for light motor vehicles after the obstruction was cleared, while restoration and cleaning operations are continuing in the area.

The district administration is monitoring the situation and assessing the extent of the damage. [KNT]
