Ganderbal, Oct 1: KNT: The Central University of Kashmir has attached a professor to its main campus and relieved him of the headship of the Department of Chemistry following a complaint by students alleging harassment and use of abusive language.

Registrar of the Central University of Kashmir, Prof Nisar Ahmad Mir, told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the university took cognizance of the matter after students staged a protest at the Nunnar campus and submitted a complaint about Professor Bhaskar, who was heading the Department of Chemistry.

He said the professor has been attached to the main campus and relieved of his headship pending an inquiry into the allegations.

The action comes after students from different campuses gathered at the Nunnar campus on Thursday and protested against the alleged conduct of the professor, with students accusing him of using abusive language and harassing students.

The university administration has constituted an internal inquiry into the allegations, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry, the Registrar said.

The allegations against the professor have not been independently established and remain subject to the outcome of the inquiry. [KNT]
