10 MVA Receiving Station Commissioned for GMC Hospitals in Srinagar

Srinagar, Feb 23, KNT: A 10 MVA power receiving station dedicated to the Associated Hospitals of Government Medical College Srinagar was inspected on Monday by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo and Principal GMC Prof Iffat Hassan Shah, marking a significant upgrade in electricity infrastructure for key health institutions in the city.
The newly commissioned facility is designed to stabilise and strengthen power supply to SMHS Hospital, Super Speciality Hospital Shireen Bagh, the Dental College and the Nursing College operating under GMC Srinagar. Officials on site said three separate 11kV outgoing feeders have been laid from the station to ensure a steady and reliable electricity flow to these major healthcare centres.
The inspection was attended by senior officers from the district administration, GMC management and engineering wings, including officials from KPDCL and R&B. The focus remained on operational readiness and the expected impact on hospital functioning.
Reliable electricity has long been a critical requirement for tertiary healthcare institutions where intensive care units, operation theatres and advanced diagnostic equipment depend on uninterrupted supply. Officials said the commissioning of the receiving station is expected to reduce voltage fluctuations and lower dependence on backup systems.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner and the Principal also reviewed development works at the GMC hostel block, including landscaping and lighting improvements.
District authorities indicated that coordination across departments would continue to ensure that infrastructure bottlenecks affecting hospital operations are addressed on priority. [KNT]
