DGP Nalin Prabhat Reviews Security Grid in Rural South Kashmir Ahead of Independence Day
Srinagar, Aug 14, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Police chief DGP Nalin Prabhat, accompanied by IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi, on Friday visited rural areas of Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts to review the prevailing security situation and assess the functioning of the ground-level security grid ahead of Independence Day.
During the visit, the senior police officers reviewed security arrangements in the three South Kashmir districts and took stock of the deployment and mechanisms being used to monitor vulnerable areas.
The visit assumes significance as security agencies have been maintaining heightened alert in South Kashmir following a series of recent attacks, including the killing of a J&K Police head constable in Anantnag on July 22 and the subsequent shooting of two migrant workers in Kulgam on July 31. The two workers later succumbed to their injuries.
The Anantnag incident had prompted intensified security operations across South Kashmir, including Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam, with additional checkpoints and searches being mounted in several areas.
Against this backdrop, the DGP’s field visit focused on the effectiveness of the existing security grid and the ability of police units on the ground to respond quickly to any emerging threat.
The officers also reviewed surveillance arrangements and security measures in rural and vulnerable pockets, besides taking stock of coordination between different police formations operating in the districts.
The review comes a day before Independence Day, when security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir are being strengthened around important installations, public gatherings and other sensitive locations.
Police and security agencies have been maintaining a heightened presence across South Kashmir as part of measures aimed at preventing any attempt to disrupt the Independence Day events and ensuring the safety of civilians. [KNT]
