FDA Seals M/s Swat Industries Packaged Drinking Water Unit at Lassipora
Pulwama, Sep 28, KNT: The Food and Drug Administration, Jammu and Kashmir, has sealed a packaged drinking water unit at the Industrial Growth Centre, Lassipora, Pulwama, after officials found it operating without a valid licence for processing and packaging drinking water.
The action followed a specific complaint against M/s Swat Industries, which was processing and marketing packaged drinking water under the brand name “ICY Wave”.
During inspection, the Food Safety team as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust found that the unit did not possess an FSSAI licence covering the processing and packaging of drinking water.
Officials further found that the FSSAI licence number displayed on the bottles was issued for wholesale and retail trade of fruits and vegetables and did not cover the processing or packaging of drinking water.
The enforcement team lifted two samples of the packaged drinking water for laboratory examination and subsequently sealed the premises, suspending its operations.
A show-cause notice has also been issued to the representative of the firm, seeking an explanation within three days.
The FDA said further legal action has been initiated under the relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act. [KNT]
