Srinagar, Sep 28, KNT: CPI(M) MLA Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami said the resolution adopted by the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on statehood should reassure people that their concerns over the region’s political status remain central to the elected House.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, Tarigami said Jammu and Kashmir did not accept what he described as its “disempowerment” and asserted that the demand was for restoration of powers that had been taken away.
“House passed a good resolution on statehood. People can be reassured by what Assembly decided today,” Tarigami said.
“J&K does not accept disempowerment. We want to be empowered and seek what was taken away from us, not what is not ours,” he added.
The Assembly passed the statehood resolution on Monday after a discussion during the ongoing session. [KNT]
