Srinagar, Sep 28, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday passed the resolution moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seeking restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, amid continued protests and uproar by BJP legislators.
The resolution was passed as BJP members continued their protest in the House, objecting to references to earlier Assembly resolutions, including the 2000 autonomy resolution.
The BJP legislators disrupted proceedings and opposed the resolution as the government proceeded with the vote.
The resolution calls upon the Government of India for the immediate and urgent restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and seeks that it be forwarded to the Union Government.
The resolution also refers to resolutions passed by the House on June 26, 2000, and November 6, 2024.
The passage of the resolution followed heated exchanges between the Treasury and Opposition benches, with BJP legislators continuing their protest over its contents. [KNT]
