Rajasthan, March 12, KNT: Female nursing students from Kashmir studying at Mewar University in Rajasthan have alleged harassment by hostel authorities and appealed for intervention after they were reportedly asked to vacate their hostel rooms.

The issue has triggered concern among student groups after several students from Kashmir claimed that the hostel warden misbehaved with them and threatened them, while also allegedly bringing male staff members into the girls’ hostel premises.

According to the students, the situation escalated after they began protesting over allegations that the nursing courses they were enrolled in were not approved, raising concerns about the validity of their degrees.

Some of the students contacted families and student representatives over phone, claiming they were being harassed by hostel authorities and asked to leave the accommodation. Students alleged that the warden was behaving “like a dictator” and intimidating female residents.

“The warden is misbehaving with students, threatening them and even bringing male staff into the girls’ hostel,” one of the students alleged while speaking over phone.

Student leaders said the situation has created fear among Kashmiri female students studying at the university.

All India Medical Students Association president Mohammad Moomin Khan has sought the intervention of Jammu and Kashmir Health and Education Minister Sakina Itoo to address the issue and ensure the safety and academic future of the students.

Khan said the matter requires urgent attention from authorities in Jammu and Kashmir as a large number of students from the Union Territory are pursuing professional courses in different parts of the country.

He urged the government to communicate with the university administration and ensure that the concerns raised by the students are investigated.

Students said their protest began after they came to know that the nursing programmes they were pursuing at the university were allegedly not approved by the concerned regulatory authorities.

They said the uncertainty over course approval has created anxiety among students who have already spent considerable time and resources pursuing the programme.

Officials from the university could not immediately be reached for comment regarding the allegations made by the students.

The development has drawn attention to the issue of verification of course approvals and regulatory compliance in private universities where students from different states pursue professional education. [KNT]
