Ganderbal: Two Bodies Recovered from Power Canal After Alleged Jump

Ganderbal, June 15, KNT: The bodies of a 19-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man were recovered from the Power Canal in Ganderbal district after a massive search operation involving police, SDRF personnel, CRPF and local volunteers.

The deceased were identified as daughter of Fazal-ur-Rehman Khan of Ramwari Gund, and Adil Ahmad Tantray, son of Ghulam Rasool Tantray of Tantray Mohalla Gund.

According to police, information was received at Police Station Gund that two individuals had drowned in the Power Canal at Akhoon Gund. Following the report, SHO Gund Rayees Ahmad, rescue teams and local volunteers launched an extensive search operation.

“SHO Gund Rayees Ahmad told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that police were informed that 19-year-old (name with-held) and 39-year-old Adil Ahmad Tantray had jumped into the Power Canal at Akhoon Gund.”

During the initial investigation, police recovered two mobile phones, a pair of slippers and a scarf from the site, prompting an intensified search in the canal.

The body of lady was later recovered from the canal near Akhoon Gund, while the body of Adil Ahmad Tantray was subsequently retrieved from the Fraw Dam area.

Both bodies were shifted to Sub-District Hospital Kangan for post-mortem examinations.

Police have registered a case under FIR No. 194/BNSS and initiated further investigation to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities said all aspects of the case are being investigated and further details will emerge as the probe progresses. [KNT]
