Udhampur, Feb 21, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the All India Medical Students Association has expressed serious concern over the alleged absence of hostel facilities and basic amenities at Government Medical College Udhampur, stating that students are being compelled to pursue their studies under difficult living conditions.

In a statement, AIMSA J&K said that despite the institution being operational, a functional hostel campus has not been established, forcing students to reside in rented accommodations away from the college premises. The association claimed that many of these accommodations lack adequate sanitation, clean drinking water and secure infrastructure.

AIMSA J&K President Dr Mohammad Momin Khan stated that deficiencies in essential facilities including proper washrooms, study spaces and reliable transportation are adversely affecting students’ health, safety and academic performance. He alleged that poor hygiene conditions have led to health issues among students, including reported cases of urinary tract infections among female students.

The association described the situation as unacceptable for a medical institution and urged the Health Department to address the matter on priority. It appealed to Health Minister Sakina Itoo to intervene and ensure the establishment of a proper hostel campus with necessary basic facilities.

AIMSA maintained that timely action is essential to safeguard the dignity, well-being and academic environment of medical students at the college. [KNT]
