Srinagar, May 4, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet against 11 accused persons, including officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), in connection with an alleged illegal construction case in Srinagar, officials said on Monday.

The chargesheet was presented before the Court of Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Srinagar in FIR No. 24/2020, involving offences under Section 5(1)(d) read with 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, Svt. 2006, and Section 120-B RPC.

According to the ACB, four accused are public servants from SMC, while seven others are private beneficiaries.

The case pertains to the construction of six illegal structures at Jawahar Nagar, Gonikhan, Hari Singh High Street, and Wazir Bagh areas of Srinagar without obtaining valid building permission from the competent authority.

Officials said the constructions were allegedly carried out in connivance with SMC officers and officials, facilitating violations of building norms.

The investigation conducted by Police Station ACB Srinagar, based on oral and documentary evidence, substantiated the charges against the accused, with authorities alleging a conspiracy between government functionaries and private beneficiaries.

The ACB said that after obtaining the requisite sanction for prosecution of public servants from the government, the chargesheet was filed before the court for judicial determination.

The next date of hearing in the case has been fixed for June 16, 2026.[KNT]
