Northern Railway Extends SVDK–Srinagar Service Up to Jammu Tawi

Srinagar, Feb 24, KNT: Northern Railway has announced extension of the Vande Bharat Express service operating between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra up to Jammu Tawi, enabling direct connectivity between Srinagar and Jammu from March 1, 2026.
According to an official communication issued on Tuesday, Train Vande Bharat Express will be extended to Jammu Tawi with effect from March 1. The service will now operate as 26401 Jammu Tawi–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express and 26402 Srinagar–Jammu Tawi Vande Bharat Express.
Railway authorities also announced revision in train composition, upgrading from the existing 8-coach Vande Bharat rake to a 20-coach formation, significantly increasing passenger carrying capacity.
As per the notified schedule, the train will originate from Jammu Tawi at 6:15 am and reach Srinagar in the forenoon, halting at key stations including Bajalta, Ramnagar, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Reasi and Banihal. In the return direction, the train will depart Srinagar in the afternoon and reach Jammu Tawi in the evening.
The extension marks a major boost to rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, providing seamless high-speed travel between the winter and summer capitals and improving access for pilgrims and tourists.
Railway officials said the move is expected to enhance regional mobility and support tourism and economic activity across the Union Territory. [KNT]
