In a major escalation of the ongoing Iran–United States military confrontation, Iran has launched a series of missile and drone strikes targeting American military installations across West Asia, hours after joint US and Israeli forces initiated coordinated strikes inside Iranian territory earlier in the day.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had commenced “Operation Truthful Promise 4,” describing it as a direct retaliatory response to what Tehran termed aggression against its sovereignty. Explosions and air defence interceptions were reported across several Gulf and regional states hosting US military facilities.

Among the installations reportedly targeted were Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, NSA Bahrain naval facility, Muwaffaq Al-Salti Air Base in Jordan, Ain Al-Asad Air Base in Iraq, and Erbil Air Base in Iraq. Regional authorities stated that several incoming missiles were intercepted, though smoke and blast impacts were reported near certain installations.

US President Donald Trump said in a video statement that Washington’s objective was to defend the American people by eliminating what he described as imminent threats from the Iranian regime. He alleged that Iran continues to expand its nuclear programme and missile capabilities capable of reaching US territory.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the joint strikes were aimed at removing what he termed an existential threat.

Amid the rapidly evolving security situation, civilian populations in affected regions have been advised to seek shelter and avoid non-essential movement. The Indian Embassy in Iran and Israel, along with missions in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, issued advisories urging Indian nationals to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel and adhere strictly to local safety instructions. In Jordan, Indian tourists were advised to consider departure before commercial flight operations face disruption.

The confrontation marks one of the most direct exchanges between Iran and US forces in recent years, raising fears of a broader regional war involving multiple Gulf states. Military analysts caution that further retaliation or miscalculation could widen the conflict beyond West Asia.

Airspace restrictions, heightened military alerts and emergency response measures remain in place across several countries as the situation continues to unfold. [KNT]
