Srinagar Records Highest-Ever February Temperature at 21.0°C

Srinagar, Feb 21, KNT: Srinagar on Saturday recorded its highest-ever maximum temperature for the month of February, with the mercury soaring to 21.0 degrees Celsius, shattering a decade-old record.
According to weather data, the previous all-time February record of 20.6 degrees Celsius was registered on February 24, 2016. The latest reading marks a new benchmark for the month in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Meteorological observers described the rise as highly unusual for late winter, noting that the temperature stood nearly 10 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average. Such a deviation is considered extraordinary for February in the Kashmir Valley, which typically experiences cold conditions during this period.
Weather analysts said the spike is part of an ongoing warm spell affecting the region. With dry weather conditions prevailing and no significant Western Disturbance forecast in the immediate future, maximum temperatures are expected to climb further over the coming days.
Experts cautioned that if the trend continues, additional long-standing February records could be surpassed in other parts of the Valley as well. The sustained warmth has placed February 2026 on course to rank among the warmest February months recorded in Kashmir’s recent climatological history. [KNT]
