Mother, Five-Day-Old Infant Killed in Highway Accident in Rajouri

Rajouri, March 9, KNT: A woman and her five-day-old newborn baby died in a road accident on the Jammu–Rajouri highway in Rajouri district on Monday afternoon, officials said.

The accident occurred when a car travelling from Jammu to Rajouri collided with a school bus, resulting in casualties among the occupants of the car.

Officials said the accident took place when a car bearing registration number JK05C-8423 collided with a school bus bearing registration number JK11G-8076 on the highway.

In the incident, three persons travelling in the car sustained injuries and were shifted to Sub District Hospital Sunderbani for treatment.

Doctors at the hospital declared a woman and her five-day-old baby as brought dead upon arrival.

The deceased have been identified as Shanaz Akhter, 40, wife of Abdul Majid, a resident of Mandi in Poonch district, and her newborn baby.

The driver of the car, identified as Shakeel Ahmed, son of Mohammad Sadiq, also a resident of Mandi Poonch, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police officials said both the vehicles involved in the accident have been seized.

They added that necessary legal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the incident. [KNT]
