J&K Inspects 517 Stone Crushers, Finds Violations Across Divisions

Jammu, Oct 1: KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee inspected 517 stone-crusher units across the Union Territory from January 2025 onwards, issuing 229 legal notices and 146 closure directions for violations of environmental and pollution-control norms, the Government informed the Legislative Assembly.

Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Javed Ahmed Rana said 318 crusher units were inspected in Kashmir division, where 154 legal notices and 112 closure directions were issued.

In Jammu division, 199 inspections were conducted, resulting in 75 legal notices and 34 closure directions.

The government said the enforcement action was taken under relevant provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.

The figures were provided in response to a question raised by MLA Ajaz Ahmad Jan.

The inspections form part of regulatory action aimed at ensuring compliance with environmental and pollution-control requirements by stone-crusher units operating across J&K. [KNT]
