Kashmiri Film ‘Baand’ to Debut April 14, Explores Baand-e-Pather Tradition
Srinagar, April 11, KNT: A Kashmiri-language feature film “Baand” is set to premiere at Inox Cinema in Srinagar on April 14, with filmmakers describing it as a project centered on documenting and presenting a traditional folk theatre form on screen.
Directed by Ali Emran and produced by Yaqut Mushtaq, the film focuses on Baand-e-Pather, a traditional form of folk theatre practiced in Kashmir.
The film follows the story of a folk artist, Gani Bhagat, and his son Akhtar, portraying generational differences and changes in artistic practices.
Baand-e-Pather is a performance tradition involving music, satire, and storytelling, historically performed in rural settings. The filmmakers said the project aims to depict aspects of this art form through a narrative format.
The film has been shot at multiple locations and features performers associated with the traditional theatre form, according to the production team.
The premiere event is expected to bring together members of the film and cultural community, marking a screening of a Kashmiri-language production centered on a traditional theme.
Producer Yaqut Mushtaq said the project reflects an effort to present local stories and artistic practices to wider audiences.
