Khurshid Aalam Set to Join PDP, Formal Announcement Likely Monday
Srinagar, June 1, KNT: Former trade union leader Mohammad Khurshid Aalam is likely to join the Peoples Democratic Party, with a formal announcement expected on Monday.
Sources said Aalam has decided to align with the PDP after holding consultations over the past few days. A close aide of the veteran trade unionist disclosed that both the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference and the Indian National Congress had shown keen interest in bringing him into their fold. However, Aalam is understood to have conveyed his consent to the PDP leadership.
According to sources, a public conference has been organised at Sher-i-Kashmir Park in Srinagar on Monday where the announcement is expected to be made in the presence of senior PDP leaders. Hundreds of Aalam’s supporters are likely to participate in the gathering.
“Aalam will make a formal declaration in the presence of the party’s top leadership. A large number of his supporters are expected to attend the conference,” the aide said.
When contacted, Mohammad Khurshid Aalam declined to comment on the development. However, sources maintained that he has made up his mind to join the PDP.
Meanwhile, PDP Chief Spokesperson Nayeem Akhtar said he had no information regarding the reported development when approached for confirmation. [KNT]
