Weather Activity Eases Across J&K, Major Flood Threat Largely Averted

Srinagar, July 24, KNT: Weather activity has reduced significantly across Jammu and Kashmir, bringing relief after days of widespread rainfall, with meteorological assessments indicating that the threat of any major flooding has largely been averted.

According to the latest weather update, only brief spells of rain are expected at a few places across the Union Territory until Friday evening. A lull in weather activity is likely thereafter, particularly over south Kashmir, where no major rainfall is anticipated until at least midnight.

Forecasters have indicated that scattered showers may continue during the next two days. However, these are not expected to develop into prolonged or day-long spells of heavy rainfall.

The improvement in weather conditions has coincided with a gradual decline in the water level of the Jhelum River. Although river levels are expected to remain relatively high until Saturday or even the following day, no significant flood threat is anticipated, provided there is no breach of embankments.

Officials have nevertheless advised people living in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and continue following advisories issued by the administration, particularly in landslide-prone and low-lying areas. [KNT]
