Bandipora, June 17, KNT: Drawing a clear political line amid evolving equations within the opposition camp, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday asserted that the National Conference would not compromise its ideology or core political principles for power, declaring that the party’s values were “not for sale.”

Speaking to reporters during his visit to Bandipora district, Abdullah responded to questions regarding reports of certain opposition parties extending support to the NDA on specific issues. Without directly criticizing any political formation, he said every party was free to take its own decisions, but maintained that the National Conference would remain anchored to its historical legacy and ideological commitments.

“The National Conference has a long political legacy and a set of values that guide its decisions. Those principles are not for sale. No matter what is offered to us, we will not sell our morals and values,” Abdullah said.

His remarks assume significance amid ongoing political speculation over shifting alliances and emerging alignments at the national level. The Chief Minister emphasized that the party’s future course would be determined by public interest rather than political expediency or transient alliances.

During the visit, Omar Abdullah inaugurated and reviewed development projects worth nearly ₹300 crore across Bandipora district. He inspected works related to road connectivity, drinking water supply, electricity, healthcare infrastructure and other public services.

Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the status of various projects, while he directed departments to ensure timely completion and effective implementation of welfare initiatives.

The Chief Minister also interacted with public delegations and local residents who raised issues concerning civic amenities, employment, healthcare and infrastructure. He assured them that genuine concerns would receive due attention and directed the concerned authorities to expedite redressal of public grievances.

Reiterating his government’s development agenda, Abdullah said strengthening infrastructure and improving service delivery would remain a cardinal objective of the administration, while the National Conference would continue to adhere to its political convictions irrespective of developments in national politics. [KNT]
