Srinagar, April 24, KNT: More than 45,000 Right to Information (RTI) applications were received on the Jammu and Kashmir RTI Online Portal between January 10, 2025 and March 31, 2026, according to an official response issued by the General Administration Department (GAD).
The information was provided in reply to an RTI application filed by Rasikh Rasool Bhat, as per an official communication dated April 24, 2026.
The data shows that a total of 45,275 RTI applications were received on the portal during the period under reference. Of these, 40,310 applications were disposed of, indicating a significant level of processing by departments handling RTI queries.
The reply further stated that 6,061 first appeals were filed during the same period, out of which 4,498 appeals were disposed of.
The RTI response, issued by the Central Public Information Officer in the General Administration Department, reflects the scale of usage of the online RTI system in Jammu and Kashmir, which has seen steady engagement from applicants seeking information from government departments.
However, the department declined to provide details regarding the total amount of RTI application fees collected through the portal, stating that the information sought did not fall under the definition of “information” as per Section 2(f) of the RTI Act, 2005.
The communication also informed the applicant about the option to file a first appeal before the designated appellate authority in case of dissatisfaction with the response.
The figures indicate both a high volume of public information requests and a substantial disposal rate, pointing to the operational load and response mechanism within the RTI framework in the Union Territory. [KNT]
