Fatima Sana created history after smashing the fastest half-century in women’s T20 International cricket, reaching the milestone in just 15 balls during Pakistan’s match against Zimbabwe at the National Stadium in Karachi.
The Pakistan captain scored a blistering 62 runs off only 19 deliveries as the hosts defeated Zimbabwe by 133 runs to complete a 3-0 series sweep in the T20I series.
With the explosive innings, Sana broke the previous record for the fastest women’s T20I fifty, which had jointly been held by Sophie Devine, Phoebe Litchfield, and Richa Ghosh, all of whom had reached the landmark in 18 balls.
Sana launched her assault from the opening delivery of her innings, striking a boundary through the point region before dismantling Zimbabwe’s bowling attack with aggressive strokeplay.
Her innings included 10 boundaries and two sixes and came at a remarkable strike rate of more than 326.
Powered by Sana’s late onslaught, Pakistan women’s national cricket team posted 223 for 4 in 20 overs.
Zimbabwe were later bowled out for 90 runs in 17.1 overs, with Sana also contributing with the ball by taking one wicket during the innings.
She was named Player of the Match for her all-round performance.
The 24-year-old Karachi-born cricketer has emerged as one of Pakistan’s most consistent performers in recent years and has shown significant improvement with the bat since assuming captaincy responsibilities.
Earlier, Sana had also scored two half-centuries in One-Day Internationals against South Africa women’s national cricket team.
Statistics from her recent performances underline her growing influence in Pakistan cricket, with Sana scoring 283 runs and taking 18 wickets in her last 10 limited-overs matches.
