Srinagar, Sep 17, KNT: PARAS Health Srinagar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP) to strengthen professional collaboration and promote rehabilitation and patient-centred care in Jammu and Kashmir.

The collaboration is aimed at facilitating knowledge exchange, professional engagement and greater awareness of the expanding role of physiotherapy across modern healthcare, while creating opportunities to advance rehabilitation practices in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Murtuza Habib, Facility Director, PARAS Health Srinagar, highlighted the expanding scope of physiotherapy and the role of physiotherapists in supporting patients through recovery and long-term rehabilitation. He said physiotherapy has evolved beyond conventional rehabilitation and now contributes across specialties including orthopaedics, neurosurgery, critical care, sports injuries and post-operative recovery.

Dr Habib also emphasised the importance of multidisciplinary care, with physiotherapists working alongside surgeons, physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals at different stages of treatment and recovery.

Dr Masarat Shafi, PT, IAP CEC North Zone and Council Member, State Allied Health Council, J&K, described the MoU as a significant development for the organisation. He said the IAP was encouraged by PARAS Health Srinagar’s focus on specialised healthcare, particularly across Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery and Critical Care.

Dr Shafi said the partnership would provide a platform for strengthening the role of physiotherapy within comprehensive healthcare while encouraging professional development, knowledge sharing and improved rehabilitation practices.

Seema Vig, Senior Vice President and Regional Director, PARAS Health, said the organisation’s focus was to make specialised healthcare more accessible and affordable closer to communities across Jammu and Kashmir. She said collaborations with professional bodies such as the IAP would further support the integration of rehabilitation and recovery into comprehensive, patient-centred healthcare.

The MoU is expected to facilitate continued professional engagement between PARAS Health Srinagar and IAP and contribute to the development of rehabilitation care and physiotherapy practices in the region. [KNT]
