Petrol, Diesel Prices Increased Again as Oil Firms Pass on Global Energy Costs

New Delhi, May 23, KNT: Petrol and diesel prices were increased again across the country on Saturday, marking the third hike in less than 10 days as state-owned oil companies continued passing on higher global energy costs linked to tensions in West Asia.
In Delhi, petrol prices rose by 87 paise per litre, increasing from Rs 98.64 to Rs 99.51 per litre. Diesel prices were raised by 91 paise, moving from Rs 91.58 to Rs 92.49 per litre.
The latest revision follows an earlier increase of Rs 3 per litre on May 15 and another hike of around 90 paise on May 19.
With Saturday’s increase, fuel prices have risen by nearly Rs 5 per litre within a span of less than 10 days.
Oil marketing companies had resumed calibrated price revisions from May 15, citing elevated international energy prices arising from conflict and instability in West Asia.
The latest increase pushes petrol prices in the national capital close to the Rs 100-per-litre mark and is expected to add pressure on transportation and household expenses.
Fuel price revisions are closely monitored across the country as they directly influence inflation, freight charges and overall cost of living. [KNT]
