Railways to Run Special Train Between Budgam and Katra Amid NH-44 Closure
Srinagar, August 1, KNT: In view of the closure of National Highway-44 between Srinagar and Jammu, the Railways has decided to operate a special train service between Budgam (BDGM) and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) to facilitate stranded passengers and ease the heavy rush at railway stations.
The decision has been taken following a request from the Commercial Control, Jammu, after the closure of the highway led to an unprecedented increase in passenger footfall at Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway stations. The special train aims to provide immediate relief to travellers affected by the disruption of road connectivity.
According to railway officials, the special train will operate between Budgam and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra with the approval of the competent authority. The service has been introduced to ensure smooth passenger movement and effectively manage the excessive crowd resulting from the suspension of traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
Officials said the detailed timetable and operational schedule of the special train will be implemented as approved, while passengers have been advised to remain in touch with railway authorities for updates regarding timings and ticket availability.
The special service is expected to significantly reduce the inconvenience faced by hundreds of passengers stranded due to the highway closure caused by inclement weather and related disruptions. [KNT]
