Jammu, June 3, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Wednesday staged a protest in Jammu against the rising prices of essential commodities and domestic LPG cylinders, with senior party leader Raman Bhalla accusing the BJP-led Central Government of imposing an unbearable burden on common people.
The protest rally witnessed participation from hundreds of Congress workers who marched through parts of the city carrying placards and raising slogans against inflation and rising household expenses.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the demonstration, Bhalla alleged that soaring prices of food items, cooking gas and other essentials had severely affected low and middle-income families.
“The BJP government has created a complete mess. Every household today is struggling to manage its monthly expenses. Prices of essential commodities have gone beyond the reach of ordinary people while the government remains indifferent to their suffering,” Bhalla said.
He claimed that repeated increases in LPG prices and the cost of daily-use items had placed an additional financial burden on poor and economically weaker sections.
“People are being forced to choose between basic necessities. The government promised relief but what the public has received is inflation, unemployment and economic distress,” he said.
Bhalla further alleged that the rising cost of living was eroding the purchasing power of common citizens and affecting families across urban and rural areas alike.
“The voices of the poor, workers, farmers and salaried classes are not being heard. The government must take immediate measures to control inflation and provide relief to the people,” he added.
Congress leaders said the party would continue raising issues related to inflation and public welfare both on the streets and through democratic forums. [KNT]
