Pulwama, June 15, KNT: Authorities have imposed fines on five brick kiln owners in south Kashmir after they were found selling bricks at rates higher than those fixed by the government in Pulwama and Shopian districts.

The action was taken during inspections conducted by officials at several brick kiln units to ensure compliance with government-approved pricing.

Officials said the government has fixed the rate of “A” grade pacca bricks at ₹21,000 for 3,000 bricks, including all taxes as well as loading and unloading charges, excluding transportation costs.

During inspections carried out in the Tahab area of Pulwama and the Litter area of Shopian, officials found that several kiln owners were charging consumers above the prescribed rates.

An official told KNT that at least five brick kiln owners were found involved in overcharging customers during the inspection.

Authorities imposed a fine of ₹40,000 on the kiln owners for violating the government’s pricing norms.

The official said the kiln operators were also not issuing proper bills to consumers, which was another violation detected during the inspection.

Officials warned that brick kiln owners will not be allowed to overcharge customers and strict action will be taken against violators.

Authorities also appealed to the public to report cases where kiln owners are found charging rates higher than those approved by the government.

Consumers were asked to contact the concerned authorities to lodge complaints against kiln owners violating the prescribed rates. [KNT]
