Tourist Killed After Boulder Hits Vehicle on Khanbal-Pahalgam Road

Anantnag, Sep 2, KNT: A tourist was killed on Wednesday after a boulder rolled down a hillside and struck an Innova vehicle on the Khanbal-Pahalgam Road near Bumzoo Shrine in the Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

An official said the Innova, bearing registration number JK01AT-8081, was carrying six tourists from Pahalgam towards Anantnag when the boulder suddenly rolled down from the hillside and hit the vehicle.

One tourist sustained serious injuries in the incident, while the remaining tourists, including the driver, escaped unhurt.

The injured tourist was immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The deceased was identified as R Himansu Prasad Rao, a resident of Ganjam, Odisha.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated necessary proceedings. [KNT]
