Srinagar, April 1, KNT Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Dr. Mohammad Umar Farooq on Friday condemned the alleged assault on Kashmiri students at an engineering college in Dausa district of Rajasthan and called for immediate steps to ensure their safety.

In a statement issued in Srinagar, a spokesman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference said that the incident in Engineering College Dausa near Jaipur reflected a worrying trend of harassment faced by Kashmiri students studying outside the Valley.

According to the spokesman, the Kashmiri students of the college contacted Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and informed him about the alleged harassment and intimidation they faced on the campus.

The spokesman said such assaults appeared to be deliberate attempts to create fear among Kashmiri students studying in different parts of the country.

“These assaults seem to be calibrated and carried out with the purpose of scaring Kashmiri students,” the spokesman said, adding that the students had expressed deep concern over their safety following the incident.

The Hurriyat spokesman said the students had reported a sense of insecurity and appealed for intervention to ensure their protection.

He urged the college administration to take immediate notice of the incident and address the concerns raised by the students.

The spokesman specifically called upon the authorities of Engineering College Dausa, including Director Dr. C. L. Meena, to investigate the matter and ensure that the Kashmiri students studying there are provided adequate security.

He said educational institutions have a responsibility to maintain a safe environment for all students regardless of their background or region.

The spokesman also stressed that the Rajasthan government had both a moral and legal obligation to safeguard the lives and property of Kashmiri students studying in various institutions across the state.

He said authorities must take effective steps to prevent incidents that could endanger students and disturb the academic atmosphere on campuses.

The spokesman expressed hope that the concerned authorities would act promptly and take necessary measures to reassure the students and their families.

Incidents involving Kashmiri students studying outside the Valley have occasionally drawn attention from political and civil society groups in Kashmir, who often raise concerns about their safety and well-being. [KNT]
