Srinagar, April 29, KNT: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Chairman Faz Lul Haseeb on Wednesday said the civic body is working on a policy to provide designated spaces to food cart vendors in a bid to regulate their presence and prevent encroachment of roads in the city.
Speaking to reporters, Haseeb said the proposed policy aims to ensure that street vendors operate from identified zones so that public movement is not affected by unregulated roadside activity.
“We are working on a policy to provide designated space to food cart vendors so that their presence remains limited there and there is no encroachment of roads,” he said.
The SMC chairman also said that action is being initiated against car dealers who display their vehicles on roads, contributing to congestion and obstruction.
“We are also initiating action against car dealers who display their cars on roads, but at the same time we will ensure their livelihood does not suffer,” he said.
He added that the civic body will take strict action against individuals who park vehicles and motorcycles on footpaths and roads, obstructing pedestrian movement and traffic flow.
“Strict action will be taken against those who park their vehicles and bikes on footpaths and roads,” he said.
The remarks come amid growing concerns over increasing encroachment of public spaces in Srinagar, particularly in busy commercial areas where vendors, vehicle displays, and unauthorized parking have contributed to congestion. [KNT]
