Petitioners Seek ₹50 Lakh Compensation, High Court Issues Notice to Govt in ‘False Rape Case, Illegal Detention’

Jammu, April 29, KNT: The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has issued notice to respondents on a petition seeking compensation of ₹50 lakh for alleged false implication in a rape case and illegal detention.

The petitioners have approached the court alleging that they were wrongfully implicated and unlawfully detained, seeking monetary compensation for the alleged violation of their rights.

The order was passed by Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, who directed issuance of notice to the respondents.

Notice on behalf of two respondents was waived by their counsel, Advocate Chetna Manhas, who sought time to file a response. The court granted four weeks for filing the reply, with a direction to furnish an advance copy to the counsel for the petitioners.

The court further directed that notice be issued to respondents other two respondents, returnable within four weeks, subject to completion of requisite steps for service within one week.

The matter has been listed for further hearing on June 1, 2026.

The petition centers on allegations of wrongful prosecution and detention, with the petitioners seeking financial compensation for the alleged harm caused. [KNT]
