Baramulla, April 11, KNT: The health sector in Pattan is facing administrative challenges following the retirement of the Block Medical Officer (BMO), leaving the medical block without a designated head and affecting the functioning of healthcare facilities, sources said.
The Block Medical Officer post has remained vacant since the retirement of Dr Tuha Khan last month, with no replacement appointed so far, according to sources in the department.
The absence of a BMO has led to a lack of centralized supervision and administrative coordination across the block, impacting day-to-day functioning of health institutions.
Sources said that without a designated officer in charge, monitoring of staff attendance and service delivery has weakened. “There is no proper supervision, and staff are functioning without direct oversight,” a source said, adding that this has affected patient care.
Meanwhile, local MLA Javaid Reyaz Bedar said that the issue has been taken up with the concerned authorities and assured that a new Block Medical Officer would be appointed in the coming days.
The BMO serves as the administrative head of the block, responsible for overseeing healthcare delivery, staff management, and implementation of health programs, making the position critical for the functioning of the system. [KNT]
