New Delhi, June 3, KNT: The Democratic Medical Association (DMA) has called for an independent inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) elections held on May 31, saying the allegations have raised serious concerns about the transparency and credibility of the electoral process.
The association cited reports of alleged bogus voting, multiple voting, ineffective use of indelible ink and other procedural lapses, asserting that such claims warrant impartial scrutiny.
In a statement, DMA said democratic institutions representing the medical fraternity must function with the highest standards of integrity, accountability and transparency, adding that any allegation capable of undermining confidence among registered medical practitioners should be examined thoroughly.
Dr. Amit Vyas, National President of the Democratic Medical Association, said the Delhi Medical Council is a statutory body entrusted with representing the medical community and that any allegation affecting the integrity of its electoral process must be investigated transparently.
“The faith of doctors in democratic institutions can only be preserved through accountability and fairness,” he said.
Dr. Shubh Pratap Solanki, Founder and National General Secretary of DMA, also emphasized the need for transparency and credibility in professional institutions.
The association reiterated its commitment to safeguarding democratic values, transparency and accountability within medical institutions and expressed support for what it described as the medical fraternity’s pursuit of fair representation and good governance.
The Delhi Medical Council elections were conducted on May 31. No official response from election authorities regarding the allegations was immediately available. [KNT]
