LG Sinha Leads Massive Anti-Drug Rally in Bandipora, Vows Relentless Crackdown on Drug Networks

Bandipora, May 26, KNT: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday led a massive anti-drug rally in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, declaring that the administration would continue its intensified campaign against drug smugglers and trafficking networks while simultaneously focusing on rehabilitation and youth engagement.
Addressing a large gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said the administration had moved beyond routine enforcement and was working to build a wider social movement against drug abuse and trafficking.
“Forty-five days ago, I pledged not only to dismantle the smugglers’ ecosystem but also to spark a movement that uplifts youth and restores dignity to families scarred by addiction,” Sinha said.
He said Jammu and Kashmir was united in purpose and determined to free society from the menace of drugs.
“The action against drug smugglers will continue. It will not stop until every drug smuggler is removed from the sacred soil of Jammu Kashmir,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Sinha said law enforcement agencies had launched an extensive drive to trace and dismantle supply chains and trafficking networks operating across the region.
“No drug smuggler, drug peddler, or anyone seeking to poison our society is beyond reach. The entire drug network is being pursued,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor said several supply chains that had remained concealed for years were being identified and dismantled.
“We have sent a clear message that Jammu Kashmir will not be a safe haven for those who profit from other people’s sufferings,” he said, adding that strict enforcement and legal action would continue.
Alongside enforcement, Sinha announced that the administration was finalizing a comprehensive rehabilitation policy to help youth affected by addiction reintegrate into society.
“Very soon, the administration will come out with a comprehensive rehabilitation policy which will ensure that every young person trapped by addiction gets a chance to rejoin the mainstream,” he said.
“Our aim is that not a single young person is left behind. We will provide jobs, opportunities and the means for them to live with dignity,” he added.
Calling for public participation, the Lieutenant Governor said the administration alone could not win the battle against drugs and appealed to families, teachers, religious leaders and responsible citizens to play an active role.
“I envision a Jammu Kashmir where every child grows up free from the shadow of addiction,” he said.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor inaugurated the Waqar Knowledge Centre, a youth engagement and rehabilitation initiative established in Bandipora.
Officials said the centre includes a sports corner, badminton court, reading library and information desk offering guidance on education, employment, skill development and government welfare schemes.
The administration plans to establish similar centres in every block of Bandipora district to support rehabilitation and strengthen community-based prevention efforts. [KNT]
