New J&K Industrial Policy in Final Stage, Past Lapses Won’t Be Repeated: DyCM
Srinagar, Oct 6: KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday said the revised Industrial Policy for the Union Territory has reached its final stage and assured that shortcomings and instances of alleged selective treatment witnessed under the previous policy would not be repeated.
Choudhary said the policy had been prepared after extensive work by the concerned officers under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and would be implemented soon. He said the government was working to remove existing bottlenecks and ensure that the benefits of the industrial package reached eligible beneficiaries in a fair and transparent manner.
The Deputy Chief Minister also referred to the Rs 28,400-crore industrial package received for Jammu and Kashmir, saying that its utilisation could have been more effective and that better implementation would have addressed several concerns raised by industrialists and industry chambers.
The revised policy has been under consideration following consultations with stakeholders. The draft was placed in the public domain for suggestions and comments, after which a committee constituted by the General Administration Department examined the feedback and held consultations with stakeholders before incorporating appropriate suggestions into the draft.
The policy was also reviewed by the Chief Minister in September, with directions for a balanced and pragmatic framework focused on investment, local employment, market access, ease of doing business and a stronger implementation mechanism. [KNT]
