Ramban, April 21, KNT: Iltija Mufti on Tuesday visited the family of 18-year-old Tanveer Chopan in Ramsoo area of Ramban district and called for a thorough probe into his death, demanding strict action against all those involved.

The case pertains to the death of Tanveer Chopan, a resident of the area and the only brother among four sisters, whose body was later recovered near Nallah Bishnadi along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH44) in the Ramsoo–Makarkot stretch.

According to available information, Tanveer was reportedly transporting a cow in a Tata Mobile vehicle towards his home when he was allegedly intercepted and assaulted by a group of local men. Police have arrested suspects in connection with the incident, officials said.

Initial reports suggest that the youth was subjected to violence, including assault and stone pelting, before his body was allegedly thrown into the nearby stream.

The incident has triggered concern in the region, with allegations emerging that the attack may have been linked to suspicion surrounding cattle transport.

During her visit, Mufti interacted with the bereaved family and sought a comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances leading to the death.

She called for accountability and said all those responsible must be arrested and brought to justice.

Police have taken cognizance of the case and initiated investigation, while maintaining that arrests have been made and further inquiry is underway. [KNT]
