Rajouri, June 3, KNT: One of the longest ongoing security operations in Jammu and Kashmir this year entered its 12th day on Wednesday, with security forces continuing extensive searches in the dense forests of the Gambhir Mughlan-Dorimal belt in Rajouri district amid efforts to trace a group of armed infiltrators who have remained untraced despite multiple contacts and exchanges of fire.
The operation, codenamed “Operation Sheruwali,” was launched on May 23 after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of two to three heavily armed infiltrators in the forested region of Manjakote sector. Contact was subsequently established, triggering a prolonged operation that continues without a decisive breakthrough.
Over the past 11 days, the operation has witnessed repeated searches across rugged mountainous terrain characterized by dense forests, steep ridges and natural hideouts that have complicated tracking efforts.
Security agencies have deployed substantial resources, including helicopters, drones, sniffer dogs, special forces personnel and additional reinforcements to sustain the search across the vast operational area.
Officials have maintained a tight cordon around key forest zones while simultaneously expanding search grids to prevent any possible escape from the area.
Despite extensive surveillance and ground operations, the exact number of infiltrators and their current location remain unconfirmed, contributing to the unusually long duration of the operation.
The search has become one of the most closely watched security operations in the Jammu region this year because of its length and the challenging terrain involved.
Security forces have remained on high alert throughout the operation, with repeated combing exercises continuing in and around the Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal forest belts.
Authorities have not announced any conclusion to the operation and searches were continuing at the time of filing this report. [KNT]
