Anantnag, July 12, KNT: Tragedy struck the Amarnath Yatra route on Sunday when a young labourer engaged in assisting pilgrims lost his life after a shooting stone crashed into him near Chandanwari, one of the most vulnerable stretches along the annual pilgrimage route.
The victim, Shabir Ahmad Shah (24) of Cheerward, Mattan, was on duty helping pilgrims when the boulder struck him, leaving him critically injured. Despite being rushed for emergency medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries before doctors could save him.
The body was subsequently shifted to Pahalgam Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Police have initiated proceedings to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. [KNT]
