Doda, July 6, KNT: The Kishtwar-Doda National Highway (NH-244) was blocked at Prem Nagar after heavy rainfall triggered a flash flood and mudslide, disrupting vehicular movement on the vital road link.

Officials said the sudden spell of rain brought debris and mud onto the highway, rendering the stretch impassable and forcing the suspension of traffic.

Soon after the incident, road clearance machinery and personnel were pressed into service to remove the accumulated debris and restore traffic on the highway.

Authorities said restoration work is in progress and efforts are being made to reopen the road at the earliest, subject to weather conditions.

Meanwhile, commuters have been advised to avoid travelling on the Kishtwar-Doda highway until the road is declared safe for traffic. Motorists have also been urged to follow official traffic advisories and avoid unnecessary travel through the affected stretch. [KNT]
